Hypoglycemia, part deux

Aug 05, 2009 22:03

We're pretty sure the younger son also has hypoglycemia. Why? Because he gets irritable if he doesn't eat regularly (like every couple hours).

The school reported that they were seeing some aggressive behavior since the beginning of the summer, so we went in and told them about the hypoglycemia issue. We also made sure to put stuff in his lunch box that would send him on a blood sugar roller coaster (bad mama was sending raisinettes!).

End result is that we've seen a huge improvement in behavior the past few days because he appears to be eating more at school.

Until tonight.

I'm fairly sure he was over tired, but most of the night, any little thing would put him in tears. I finally gave up and put him in PJs (while he was screaming), fed him some OJ, and had him lie down in my bed while I worked on my computer. He was out almost immediately. The last thing he said before he fell asleep was that he liked the new socks I bought him because they were soft.

Mike asked me if I was doing okay after he had calmed down. I was actually doing quite well, despite the fact that temper tantrums make me edgy. I am worried, though, that he may be getting sick again. That would really be awful because he has surgery in 1 1/2 weeks, and I hate to push it off.

Some nights, it can be tough to be a parent.
