Mazes and Brain Pop

No disasters occurred today. I managed to keep the younger offspring reasonably occupied. The first half of the morning, he found a Star Wars activity book and completely went to town on the mazes. The problem is that he refuses to write. He does the mazes with his finger and then brings them to me so that I can draw the path while he shows me which way to go. I have to admit that it amazes me (ha!) how well he can remember the path once he's done it. I also noticed that he'll "cheat" and try doing the maze from the end if he thinks it'll be more efficient. I didn't tell him that...he just sort of intuited it.

He was frustrated with one. He said, "Mom, the most important thing to remember is to have patience." And he was so melodramatic, too.

The second half of the afternoon, I stuck him in front of the computer to watch videos while I tried to organize my office. Admittedly, they were Brain Pop Junior videos, but it still has electronic babysitter written all over it. It just felt more responsible than letting him watch Spy Kids 3D over and over, which is currently one of his favorite pass-times. ("Everyone in the family has rocket feet!")

On the other hand, it was good to sign up for the trial. It looks like a wonderful set of activities goes with each video, but most of them require writing/reading knowledge. I'm not sure we're quite ready for that, yet, so it may be a little bit before I seriously consider purchasing a subcription. I remember when I was homeschooling the older one and the videos were free. Definitely easier on the pocketbook. I wish they had a cheaper or free option where you could watch the videos without getting all the extras. It might be worth it as is if you're homeschooling or supplementing and intend to make it a significant part of the curriculum, but I can't see it just as entertainment.
