I can't believe this...

I read this article on catana1's page.

This seriously makes me sick, and the teacher involved should be fired.

A kindergarten teacher went around the room and asked each student to say what they didn't like about a particular classmate and then had them vote on whether or not they should keep him in the class. The vote ended up 14-2 that they wanted him to leave.

There are so many things wrong with this, I don't know where to start. But, never fear...I will.

The boy, to begin with, obviously has some issues. He's six, though. A six-year-old boy is clueless about his impact on other people. If this boy is diagnosed as having Asperger's, then he is even more clueless, as impossible as it seems. It sounds like he has sensory issues, which can cause children to go berzerk over the smallest thing. If this is due to poor parenting, it still is not the boy's fault.

Why would anyone do this to a child?!

I think the teacher wanted the child out of the classroom because she was tired of dealing with him, so she put it up to the students. She did not act like a responsible adult; she acted like coward. She put children up to do the dirty work.

I'm sorry, but this boy is just as entitled to an education as any other child in that room. She and the other children have no right to ask anyone to leave.

My heart goes out to this boy and his mother (and the friend who was forced to vote on this!). From what little I read, it sounds a lot like older son at that age. I know that he was pretty horrid, as much as he doesn't like to believe it. On the other hand, patience and guidance have gone a long way and he is more mature in many ways than his age-mates. But if you take a boy like this and begin hurting and ostracizing him from day one, he is never going to learn to get along with others or grow into a person that he himself likes. This is something that takes time and patience, and just "voting him off the island" is not going to do anything to move him toward becoming a good person.

Poor kid. I hope he never has to go back to school.
