Day 6 - Your Least Favourite Episode: 1.03
Okay, firstly I'd like to assure everyone that I do in fact accept series 2 and 3 as canon. Really. Now. I didn't have to think long and hard about this one, I've know what my least favourite episode for a long time. The writing in this episode. It is fucking atrocious. Okay that was harsh but, in a nicer way, I do not enjoy Julie Rutterford's writing. I love the slap/punch thing, it's fierce and everything, but anything that comes before the "So I'm not a hooker. But if I was, you know what, Gene? [I love the way she says Gene!] You could never, ever afford me." makes me angry just thinking about it. Literally, I get angry. The whole thing is just an awfully-written fucking "Prostitutes Are Just Like Everyone Else 101" class. (I'm watching In Bruges, hence why I am swearing more than usual.) I don't need a class in that, I already know it. Also annoying: "Don't you ever get brain-ache?" I don't know why that annoys me. But it does. Also, also, "You know they say a big cigar makes up for a less than impressive manhood?" UGH, OH GOD, please stop. Hmm, I think I've alienated enough people maybe? I'll shut up now.
Except no, because there are nice things in it too. Mostly when there's no dialogue. Heh. That whole "Last few seconds on Earth, Gene. What would you do?" scene is obvs awesome. Thatcherite wanker gets lucky, yay! Hungover Alex! ♥ Costume party awesomeness! And I actually do also love the Alex & Gene fight about her wild night of sex and Alex's childish "This is all your fault anyway!" reaction. And gnomes! :)
So yeah, I still made a picspam because good bits, this episode has them. :)
