The older brother of a childhood friend of mine contacted me on Facebook, his family had lived across the street from me, anyways he had a kind recollection of my Dad:
Hello Mary Kate! I remember you as a little girl-as vividly as yesterday! I can remember how your mom would often have you in pigtails.
I had heard that your dad passed a few years ago. I felt so bad for you when I heard it. Your dad had a kind and quiet way about him toward us neighborhood kids. I remember him being a bit of a handyman. I will never forget the day that he really touched me personally. I had just had a few kids disassemble my entire bicycle in my garage. I have to tell you that I had never been more upset-nor to this day have I been. I came out the next day to discover that your dad had put the bike back together again. This is something I have never forgotten!!! Your dad did something in a selfless way that really touched me. I am sure you have many such sweet memories. All the best to you.
John
(btw, it's Mary Cate with a C, I digress....)
Anyways, that was the kind of person my Dad was, always wanting to help anyone out and always fixing things, even if you think it was hidden he'd fix it. John lost his father when he was young so he knew the true value of sharing that I guess.
Anyways I didn't know about that, but it reinforces the true nature of my Dad, wow, I still miss him so much.
