I really, really love reading. The only thing I like to do more than reading is play with my grandchildren. I've been trying to read lately, but have been having a hard time even holding a book. I have to keep putting it down because my hands hurt so f-ing much. I have been taken off the methadone, (made me way too dopey/sleepy) and put on 12 hour morphine pills. They actually help - but just a little. It takes me from severe want to scream pain to just severe pain. I guess that's progress. I will make sure I call and leave a message for my doc about this. He did say to call and I wouldn't want to piss him off (haha).
Anyway, I am in the middle of two, now three books right now, because my BADD has kicked back in, but only slightly this time. In my bathroom, I am reading Eve of Destruction by SJ Day (was that too TMI?). In my bedroom I am going back an forth between Red-Headed Stepchild by Jaye Wells and Magic in the Blood by Devon Monk. Magic in the Blood is winning right now, because Devon Monk is becoming one of my favorite Authors. Her two books are put together very well (in my humble-not-knowing-a-lot-abou-book-construction opinion...I just know what I enjoy). After I finish those two, I am going to read The Demon's Librarian by Lilith Saintcrow. I've been saving that one, forcing myself to finish other books before I start it. Interestingly - maybe just to me - I have one of Lilith Saintcrow's other books waiting to be finished. I actually thought I lost it, (cause I couldn't see it right in front of me - I don't look very hard for missing things, either), but while I was looking for my shoes under my bed, I found Hunter's Prayer. So I get to finish that book too. Lilith Saintcrow always writes a good book, so I'm looking forward to that also.
I had made a goal to read at least 30 books by the end of the year. I'm on book 16, 17 and 18, so my goal looks acheivable. If I counted books read to kids, I think I would pass that goal by at least 50 books. I work parttime as a library tech - to I get to read stories to elementary school children. It's strange, because basically I am very introverted, and used to refuse to do oral book reports in school, no matter if I got an F or Incomplete - but I actually like to read stories out loud to young children. I do notice that I'm more comfortable with small groups though. One time two teachers thought it would be wonderful to share library time, and I barely got through reading the book. Never again. I also really love to read to my granddaughter, Liliana. She's a very appreciative audience. We try to read to my grandson, Elliott, but he would rather explore the world around him than sit still for a book. Maybe when he's a little older.
Speaking of my granddaughter - a little story about her here. She is 2 years and 3 months. She likes to jump on my bed, and I let her - cause hey - it's fun. One day she wanted some of my cappucino jelly beans ( I know - go figure) so I said "sure, have some, but NO JUMPING while you're eating the candy, cause I don't want you to choke on them." So she said okay. She put a couple in her mouth and started chewing. I turned around to change out of my work clothes. Suddenly, I heard a definite choking sound - really choking. I turned back around so fast, to save her of course, "saying Liliana, I told you to be careful!" When I look at her she is smiling - and she said "just kidding!". No Shit! Can you imagine? She's two! what the hell kind of joke is that out of a two year old? (inside I laughed though - very, very hard).
