Another point by point entry of interest to no one but myself. I suppose this is a perfect situation for twitter. Hopefully I won't do this again.
I was working or travelling for half the event so I missed a lot.
I wish the CTV commentators would stop saying "Any chance they had of a podium position..." for the teams that had no chance and no expectation of a podium position in the first place. They SO rarely have anything useful to say, except for Pelletier. Thank goodness he spends most of the time ignoring the other two.
Langlois might not be a strong jumper (hello ankle surgery!) but she has that magic gracefulness that I talked about with the Chinese skaters, sometimes even more so. That style of choreography was perfect for her. And just so that Hay doesn't feel left out, he's got great speed.
Shen and Zhao might be the best team, and they are beautiful to watch, but for some reason I love watching Kawaguchi. She can be so gleeful. She's very hard on herself though. I don't think the German team is all that spectacular and it annoys me that they placed higher.
That said, thank goodness Pang and Tong skated cleanly. It's irritating when all the medals go to teams that don't skate well. It's also irritating that there are empty seats.
Teams that I know to keep on eye on: Langlois and Hay, the French team, and the Russian-Japanese team. A competition throw quad sal would have been so amazing. And history for Vancouver ice.
