the world according to the jews?

Dec 16, 2006 17:14

Usually when somone thinks about the jews a few things come into mind:

1. the jewish religion - Judaism (from which is the basis of Christianity formed from including the adoption of the first 5 books of the bible known as the Torah)

2. Israel - the Jewish state

3. The Holocaust

--The latter two are what's to be discussed here. I'll start with a bit of background on how Israel got started and the holocaust.

Israel was a country founded by a movement of Jews in the middle east soon after world war 2. The Jews fought hard to gain an independent Jewish state among the muslim worshippers who inhabited the area as well (whom also were trying to make a state of their own). The Israeli state would have not succeeded if it were not for the United States intervening by giving their support in large sums of funds. With that, the Jews were able to overcome their struggle and form the state.

From here we get a new movement in the America known as AIPAC or American Israel Public Affairs Committee. This committee was first known as The Zionist Committee for Public Affairs and was started in 1953 to help hold diplomatic ties with America and Israel. It should be noted that Zionist is a term that loaded. Zionism is basically used to describe the movement of the Jews spreading their influence across the world. So AIPAC is this lobbyist group that tries to help america and vice versa, no harm done right?

As it would seem to be, AIPAC has a large hold on our government, in fact it's the largest lobbyist group in America. Basically if you didn't know what a lobbyist group is, it is one that talks to government officials in the senate and house of representatives in order to persuade them to vote a certain way on upcoming bills. Lobbyists are very crucial to our way of democracy because it allows for groups to be fully represented. However, sometimes these groups can gain too much power and perhaps contribute more money to a politican so that it will persuade them to vote their way (tobacco lobbyists anyone?)

back to the subject at hand. AIPAC has a history of putting it's influence onto politicans so that any politican who deeply opposes the state of Israel's advancement of policies in the world will not be voted into office. How can they do this? They have money and lots and lots of power in the u.s. government. My question is, is it perhaps wrong that we support Israel so blindly just because of something that happened to them 50+ years ago? Granted it was a source of great dispair, but that shouldn't mean they get a "key to the city" so to speak when it comes to how we decide to run our lives.

This brings me to the Holocaust. I won't go into details about it because we all learned about it in High school. So if we already know about it then why am I talking about it? Well according to some the world would have you believe the Holocaust was a lot lesser of a tragedy then it actually was. In fact some go as far as to say that only about 600,000 Jews died (i use only as compared to 6 million) in concentration camps. Some even go as far as to say the camps never existed or that the holocaust is completely fake. We shall look at the first idea as the other two ideas seem a bit too extreme to really debate since we have evidence of people who were in the camps and pictures of them.

My reason for bringing up the holocaust is that Iran recently held a conference on the subject of it to talk about it freely with others. This conference in no way was designed to decide if the holocaust did or did not happen but simply as an open forum to debate it freely. Why would someone need a forum to debate it freely? Well the reason the conference was held was because in Europe if you speak out against the holocaust in any way you'll be sent to prison. That's right, prison. In fact someone in Europe has already been jailed for expressing criticism for the holocaust. Now at this conference it has been noted that many controversial figures attended it such as David Duke (www.davidduke.com) whom is a staunch critic of zionism and the holocaust. Also there were members of Neturei Karta which is a group of jews dedicated to being against zionism. These people and groups basically freely discussed the issue of the holocaust, the state of israel, and zionism.

My question here is what should we believe? Is it true that the holocaust was blown out of proportion and that jews really have a large grip on what happens in most of the world or is this all just a hate-fueled idea against those who are jewish? For me, it's hard to say. The best I can do is gain more knowledge of the subject and pass that knowledge on to you. I don't condone the idea that any of these ideas are true at all but rather produce them for those who weren't aware of them. I now leave you with several topics to check out on wikipedia to get an idea of what's happening:

David Duke
Iran Holocaust Conference
AIPAC
The Holocaust
Zionism
Israel
Lobbying

And just for fun:

Torah
Judaism
Christianity

P.S. it should also be noted that Iran has been a spectical for controversy these days so it's possible the conference was held as a lark to attract people and get their feathers ruffled. For this case I also suggest reading up on the leader of Iran:

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Peace everyone.
