Pottermore: Wand notes

Sep 02, 2012 02:35

Playing Pottermore now! I'm stupposed to be sleeping but I just wanted to create my wand before doing so. So much to read about the  types of wand woods! I'm almost relieved at the lack of variety of wand cores! I said almost.

My wand: LAUREL WITH UNICORN CORE, TEN AND THREE QUARTER INCHES, SOLID

Ah, the wand makes me feel like I should've bought a wand from the Harry Potter Exhibition in Singapore. Even if it was only the commemorative wand. Which looks really like the wand above. Save the crooked bit at the top.

Laurel: It is said that a laurel wand cannot perform a dishonourable act, although in the quest for glory (a not uncommon goal for those best suited to these wands), I have known laurel wands perform powerful and sometimes lethal magic. Laurel wands are sometimes called fickle, but this is unfair. The laurel wand seems unable to tolerate laziness in a possessor, and it is in such conditions that it is most easily and willingly won away. Otherwise, it will cleave happily to its first match forever, and indeed has the unusual and engaging attribute of issuing a spontaneous lightning strike if another witch or wizard attempts to steal

Looks like mine would most likely be won away... But what it says about not being able to perform a dishonourable act strikes a chord in me.

Wand flexibility or rigidity denotes the degree of adaptability and willingness to change possessed by the wand-and-owner pair - although, again, this factor ought not to be considered separately from the wand wood, core and length, nor of the owner’s life experience and style of magic, all of which will combine to make the wand in question unique.

Or not since mine is solid.

Unicorn hair generally produces the most consistent magic, and is least subject to fluctuations and blockages. Wands with unicorn cores are generally the most difficult to turn to the Dark Arts. They are the most faithful of all wands, and usually remain strongly attached to their first owner, irrespective of whether he or she was an accomplished witch or wizard.

The most ordinary of the three; Unicorn hair, dragonstring heartstring and phoenix feather. Looks like I may not be in Slytherin. And not suited to be an Auror either. Oh, woe betide my wizarding career.

[EDIT] I'M IN GRYFFINDOR! I've always thought I'd be in Hufflepuff since Hannah Abbott's from there but, no! I'M IN GRYFFINDOR!

"This is, quite simply, the best house at Hogwarts. It’s where the bravest and boldest end up - for instance: Albus Dumbledore! Yes, Dumbledore himself, the greatest wizard of our time, was a Gryffindor! If that’s not enough for you, I don’t know what is." -Percy Weasley

Oh, wow. So I'm brave and bold? (Based on the 7 questions to Sort) I'm soo honoured! Although I find that sometimes Gryffindor-ians to be a bit cocky. Off to sleep! Ta!
