I raised myself on Marvel comic books. Where else could I go??

I hope that folks realize that "Emperor Tarvek" is summing me up pretty well. :-D

*giggles* Believe it or not, it just occurred to me why Kelvin's name is familiar .... Was that on purpose?

Not as far as being anything close to a GG name, no.

Warning! Convoluted history lesson!
Mara (as a character) is two decades old. Her first appearance was in a novel (mine) published in... 1991, I think.
Flash forward to 2012, and she's revived in the "Pauper Prince" story I have on Blogspot (mirrored on Wordpress). It's not steampunk at all, but a basic "European fairy tale romance."
Note: I hadn't started reading GG yet.
Mara, Kelvin, and Heather were set as characters.
Then I started reading GG, and started the fics while still writing Mara's own story. That juggling continues today.
So... Isabel, Daphne, and the other kids were first introduced in the fics, and then came later in Mara's main story when the time was right!

tl;dr version: the name "Kelvin" came about before I started reading GG.
