Well, as we'd guessed, the ENT is recommending that Barak get tubes. I'm comfortable with this decision, although I reserve the right as the Mommy to have a short freakout the day of surgery. I think it's going to help his hearing which will, in turn, help his speech.
The more controversial question is her suggestion that we consider an adenoidectomy as well, in the hopes that it will help control his ability to have a cold/cough/vomit thing that goes on for 3 months at a time. Part of me says "Hell yes, I'm for anything that has even the slightest chance of cutting back on his vomiting EVERY SINGLE NIGHT for months." (Which is, I think, an understandable impulse.)
My brief stint of research shows that it's usually recommended for recurrent ear infections, which isn't technically Barak's problem. It *might* also help recurrent sinus infections, which might possibly be his problem (although the ENT says it's hard to tell without an MRI).
::sigh:: It's not an especially dangerous surgery and he's going to be under anyway for the tubes so...I think I'm second guessing myself too much. The constant illness isn't any better for him than it is for us and nothing else we've done has had the slightest effect.
We can't do anything until our new health insurance kicks in on Feb. 1, so I have a few weeks to worry freak out prepare.
