Social anxiety not doing so badly

Aug 09, 2012 08:12

I'm fairly pleased with myself. Yesterday I went into the office for the first time and met a bunch of my coworkers and it went really well. I didn't get too anxious before going, which for me is a humongous accomplishment. I mean, I was a bit anxious about meeting so many new people but I don't think it was too much more than any ordinary person might feel in such a situation. So that was great.

I did babble a little bit (which is what I do when I'm nervous) but not too badly. And I did things I frequently have been be too anxious to do, like asking a stranger for the location of someone's office and even seeking out folks I used to work with to say hi. Usually, I would think about going to see them but then start telling myself that they didn't really want to see me and what if I was disturbing them and silly things like that. But this time I just did it. Alas, I was too late to catch many people, but even trying is a big step for me. And I'll be going back, so I can try again.

Another really awesome thing was having several coworkers say really nice things about me. ::blush:: I was in the office to train a new person and so she was taking me around to introduce me to people (which both of us found fairly hilarious) and several people said things like "Oh, it's so great to finally meet you. We really depend on you." Nancy said I'm smart o_O (I should have told her that flattery will get her everywhere...which is true with me.)

And when I came home, I didn't spend too much time going over every word I said and analyzing it and worrying that I'd talked too much or whatever. That happened a little bit as I was going to sleep but I distracted myself and got over it.

All in all, I'm proud of myself for making lots of progress :)

On the more stupid front, I let Avi convince me it was a good idea to take on a new weekly freelance job for his oldest brother. I mean, I've worked for David before and it's fine, but I have too much to do already. Ugh. I think I was distracted by my awesome afternoon ;)

Speaking of that project, I need to sort out which blog post needs to be done today. And pick an invoice template. Word has a bazillion of them but none of them seems to be exactly what I need, so I'm going to have to do some fixing. I used to have an invoice template that worked fine, but it was on my last laptop.

But first I need to take the kids for their last swim class and I have a meeting at the shul at 3 to do some editing for free. ::facepalm:: Smart? Yeah, maybe not...
