I have come to the decision that pleats are the bane of my existence. For some reason I thought 60 inches would be enough to make a 30 inch waist...Yeah, no. 60 inches went down to 23 inches...To figure out my mistake I've added a short panel that is 21 inches to see if that will be enough to get the waist to 30 inches...We'll see if it works.
I'm contemplating getting a ruffle foot for my "old" machine (the one I got 10 years ago), its 30 bucks, but I don't know how good it would be at making a knife pleat. Anyone out there attempted something like that? Or should I just stick with the tedious pinning. As for the pinning, I've taught myself how to pin in the seam line and in such a way that the pins don't pull out every easy.
Oh and another annoying factor, the JoAnn in SouthCenter (the nearest fabric store to me) appears to have dropped caring sewing machines and parts. Now I don't have a place near me to go to ask silly questions about feet and machine issues. Granted it means only a 15 minute drive rather than a 5, but it's more annoying.
Oh, and I looked into what it costs to service a sewing machine...ouch! $150! And i have two to be serviced. One is my White Rotary Electric from the 40s, the other is my Janome. The most important is my Janome, that's my every day machine, and I haven't really cleared out a spot for the White in our house yet. I'm working on getting some pictures of my processes. Those should be up on my next post.
