There’s a time when you feel like not wanting something anymore. That you don’t like that thing anymore and you simply just want to leave it behind.
There’s also a time when you feel like you’ve found something new and just left the old one with no reason. There’s a time when you want to make a new start and end the other old one.

“Ne…, Daiki…,” Takaki opened the conversation in the middle of his lunch with his boyfriend, Daiki.

“What?” the latter had his mouth full of the food.

“There’s rice on your cheek,” then Takaki got it for him from the cheek, and it made the younger one blushed in shades of red.

“Arigatou….” It seems like Takaki had something important to tell. But to see his boyfriend’s cuteness like that, he was distracted.

“Hey! I heard that there’s a new café in Shibuya. Wanna go there next Saturday?” Daiki’s face was painted with excitement. It seemed that he really wants to go there no matter what. At the same time, his puppy eyes were begging and pushing the brunette boy to agree with him. The older one couldn’t say no and nodded as a yes.

After having lunch, the date continued to the arcade. They played the basket ball, DDR, picking the animal stuffed toys, and making new memory by purikura.

“Do you know the recent trend of purikura? Why don’t we do it as well….” Daiki’s face showed that he really wants to do that thing. As always, Takaki nodded. They were already in the purikura box. Daiki chose the background, and when they’re ready Daiki starts to count.

“Ichi, ni…,”

“Chu!” “Klick!” the machine captured the scene perfectly. Daiki kissed the Brunette’s cheek, while the latter painted his surprised face.

“It’s chupuri. Didn’t you know that?” Daiki asked as he realized his boyfriend’s surprised face. “The girls in my class talked about it recently, and it seemed a trend nowadays….”

“Sou ka?” Takaki gave a flat reaction.

“Actually they did it on lips…,” Daiki saw his beloved boyfriend’s face. It’s too obvious that he also wants to do the same thing like others do. He looks his boyfriend’s face, almost observing it, and ended up staring at the other’s lips. He made his face closer to Takaki’s so that he can land his lips on Takaki’s.

“Jya…, maybe next time.” He stopped after his face reach Takaki’s 10 centimeters more. “I don’t think I can do it like the others do…, and perhaps there’re a lot of people out there…,” his vision is now blurred. “I’ll take the sticker and go to the bathroom before we leave. You can wait me outside.” Daiki rushed getting out from the box and got the sticker of their photo before he went to the rest room.

He chose a stall, closed the toilet lid and sat on it. He stared at the sticker they’ve made before, he dropped his pure tears unconsciously. It was only him. It was only him who looked so happy. The photo told so. Not only in the photo sticker, he assumed. It’s only him who enjoyed the date today. He thought it was just in his mind that he is the only one enjoyed it, but the expression in the sticker confirmed that Takaki didn’t feel the same as his. Takaki’s face on the first pose was totally uncolored. The other pose didn’t show any different. What pained Daiki the most was the last pose. When they made chupuri, Takaki seemed bothered. And what worse was, when Takaki refuse to kiss Daiki on the lips. He coincidentally pushed his head back, make a little space between them. Daiki knew it all. He definitely can feel it. He can feel that somehow Takaki doesn’t want to do it. That in their dates this last half month, Takaki seemed always make a distance from him even far away. It’s as if he actually doesn’t want to have a date anymore. Takaki avoids him. But Daiki doesn’t want to admit it. Perhaps Takaki was just bored with his college life. Perhaps he’s mad with someone in his class. Or any possibility he could have in campus.

Daiki went out from the stall. Then washed his teary face before went out. It takes time to make his face back to normal, so that Takaki couldn’t find out he was crying before.

---

Daiki looked at his cell phone again. This is for the tenth time in his lunch break. He didn’t eat his bentou properly. He laid the chopsticks down, and flip open his phone. Neither new messages nor calling he got.

“Do you wait for a call?” His best friend Inoo, who was a bit worry of him, came up with a question.

“Takaki hasn’t called me this whole week,” his eyes went watery like he’s ready to make them fell down.

“Perhaps he has something really important to do, so he has no time to call you.” Inoo comforting his feeling downed friend.

“But at least he can message me…,” he pouted.

---

“Hisashiburi na… this place.” They arrived at the sea where they first met last summer. It was summer holiday. Daiki went to this sea having his summer all by himself. He stayed in a guest house near the beach, and so did Takaki. It was the peak season where all the room already full. Because there was no other choice, the owner of the guest house just offered them to live in the same room with the spare bed he has. Since then, they became friends, and ended up as a lover two months later.

“Wonder if Ojii-san still there…,” Daiki run to the guest house, hoping that the owner still in his good life.

Takaki then came in with some of their luggage. It was only a backpack though. Daiki has already booked a room for them two. And thank to God that the owner was still notice them so that they got a special service that night; full set seafood and tropical fruits cocktails.

“This is as a thank you gift because you two have helped me that day…, I’m sorry that I didn’t say thank you properly that day…,” the owner bowed.

“You don’t have to do it actually Jii-san…, but if you insist us to eat this, we would like to do it with all of our heart, ne Takaki?” Daiki enjoyed himself being specially treated by the owner. It was because that day, when they first met in the guest house, they helped the owner a lot. It was high season of summer holiday, so many people come to eat, drink, and stay in the guest house. The owner also had a yakisoba and choco banana stand back then. But because of the lack of employees, he couldn’t manage the stands. With their youth spirits, Takaki and Daiki decided to help him by selling the yakisoba and choco banana. It was a big success that the owner got his things sold out.

“Do you plan to open the stands again this year?” Daiki ask as he still grabbed his dinner.

“What? Do you want to sell the yakisoba again?”

“Nah…, we’ll help you again this year too then! Ne, Takaki?”

No answer.

“Takaki, do you hear me?”

“Ah! Sorry! I think I’m sleepy now.”

“What? It’s only seven!” and he always go to bed at eleven. “You can go to room first then. I still want to talk with Jii-san.”

“Can we talk now?” Takaki suddenly gripped Daiki’s hand.

“Didn’t you just say you feel sleepy?” ignoring Daiki’s line, Takaki then pulled Daiki out from the guest house. He run, with his hand still gripping Daiki’s. Because of the foot length difference, it made Daiki run faster than Takaki.

“Uhuk, huk! Chotto matte Takaki!” Daiki loosened Takaki’s grip. He felt uneasy with his uncontrollable breaths. “What’s gotten in to you? Suddenly grabbed me out and run like that…,” he was still struggling.

“Daiki…,” Takaki opened his mouth. “Actually I have something to talk to you,” Takaki saw Daiki seriously. Meanwhile, deep inside Daiki’s heart, he felt bad about this.

“We can talk after this. We still have time…,” Daiki said as he turned back, and ready to walk back to the guest house.

“Daiki, let’s break up!”

He stopped. The night was so quiet, only the waves they could heard, yet Daiki felt a thunder just attacked him. Daiki’s mind went blank, as blank as the black night sky.

“Let’s end this…,” Takaki who’s still behind Daiki, said it once again. “I don’t think we can continue this anymore.”

“Why…?” Daiki opened his mouth. Almost stuttered so he can’t continue his question.

“I don’t know. I just feel…, I can’t do this anymore.” Takaki’s answer didn’t satisfy Daiki’s curiosity.

“I asked why Takaki…?” he now faced his boyfriend.

“You know…, You are too good for me Daiki. You have to find someone else better than me.”

“But you ARE good enough for me!” Daiki almost scream out loud.

“I don’t like you anymore!” Takaki shut Daiki up. Daiki’s eyes stopped blinking in a daze.

“Then…, do you already have someone you like?” Daiki really doesn’t want to ask this. “If you do, I think it’s easier for me to understand then.”

“No, I don’t! I just… want to restart this.”

“Then why don’t we just restart it? We can begin from the start, dating from the very beginning, listing the place we wanna go or….” With his messed up mind, Daiki was still searching the reason to get up their relationship back.

“Gomen na, Daiki….”

He stayed still. He didn’t even know how he now already in the room of the guest house. Takaki has left. Just his backpack with Daiki’s clothes inside, laying on the other spare bed.

“What do you mean by ‘restart’ Takaki?” Daiki speak to himself. “Why do you want to ‘restart’? Is there anything I did bad to you?” he almost crying. “If only I have a ‘restart’ button, I do want to restart my life….”

There’s a time when we feel fed up with something and just wanting something new. Feel bored with the one we have, and just wanting another we haven’t have. Curious about something but then left it after we knew what it was. Compete over something with others, but when we get it we realized that we don’t even need it. Being left behind, being dumped, it’s a common in life. If only there’s a ‘restart’ button, it would be easier to forget the one we loved….
