Storm damage

I came home to find that the storm last night had toppled the walnut tree in my side yard. Mom hated the tree anyway, supposedly the walnuts kill the grass. Since I mow there, I can say that a: there are no walnuts on the ground and b: there is grass there to mow. Our squirrels are very industrious. The one year mom picked up the walnuts and put ( Read more... )

I love the story of the walnuts and the squirrels stealing away the opened ones left on the sidewalk.

And look at the size of that tree. Several years firewood there.

It's pretty good size, pretty much the entire side yard is full of tree now. Which is sorta ok, cos I hate to mow. lol

It fell in a great spot tho, srsly. It could have taken out the powerlines, fell across the street, on the house across the street, on the house to the south, on the shed with the mower, or the garden fence. It fell in the one place where it didn't do any real damage. Then again... if it'd fallen out on the powerlines and the street, I think the city and the electric company might have cleaned it up.

Mom waited till I was driving home from the airport to call and tell me about it. "you know that walnut tree we used to have in the yard?" Subtle...

I keep saying to myself, at least I won't have to mow there for awhile. lol

Actually, honestly that hole is a godsend. It's very expensive to get a stump taken out. Now whoever takes the firewood can just chop up the rest and haul it all away.

I would have just left the stump and stuck a planter on top of it. Since the tree was alive, I wonder if it would have grown or not?

I'm hoping I can find someone who wants the wood for firewood. I don't think I should play with a chainsaw.

Poor squirrels, they had quite a haul from that tree. I never ran over walnuts in the yard, they kept them picked up. I know, Molly would have something to say about that. "send me the squirrels" lol

Totally. Although had Molly known, she would have just hired someone to plant a tall walnut tree in front of our apartment window. Preferably with a branch than leaned over the window ledge....
