Quiet

I should have been out hunting for places yesterday and today but it was such a beautiful day yesterday, I decided to go and hang out in Union Square, near the NYU campus. Originally I had planned to go to the Barnes and Noble and sit and read and people watch but it was so beautiful and there was so much going on in Union Square, I decided to just hang out and read the paper outside. The amount of people there was unbelievable! I mean it isn't even the main shopping area in NY. There were performances and there were protests. There was even a chap protesting the performances...

First there was a Brazilian display of music and martial arts (weird). Then this was followed by an East Indian band and singer. It was all good. Walking around Union Sq. were examples of diverse events. On one side was the artists setting up and selling their wares. Nearby was the Farmer's Market with everything from fruits to breads to flowers to meats. In the center of the Square to the side there is a place filled with tables and chairs and people just sitting and chatting. I ended up there, doing a crossword, reading and people watching. No, I saw no one famous.

Today, I went up to the Upper East Side to see what it looks like. It reminds me of my old stomping grounds at Yonge and Eglinton. I hope I am able to get something in that area of 86th and 2nd or 3rd Ave. I have a feeling it will be a question of luck. There were some nice cafes and restaurants where I can see myself settling down and having brunch. Yes, I know I am still in Angus-World but I have to establish some kind of picture, something to aspire toward. The train from NYU to 86th St. only took 20 minutes. So that's not too bad! I rode the bus back down and it took something like 45 minutes to get down to 14th St. Taking the bus is not a morning option.

Mentally, I am making a list of things I would like in my new apartment. I decided that apart from a few knicks and knacks I don't want it looking like my old Broadway Ave Apartment. I would like to purchase a nice soft leather couch (Bwah ah ah!!). As if I can afford one! And two nice chairs. I pretty much have a bed and a small dining table plus dishes and everything else. And I have my sea-chest! Perhaps my most prized possession. The center piece of my new place will of course be my few pictures I have. The most precious is of course my Napoleonic Expedition Original print from 1798-1799 depicting the pyramids from a distance. This of course will have a special place next to my even beautiful poster of Bertolucci's 'Little Buddha'. I of course would like to frame a few of my Japanese posters but not sure if I should. There, of course, will be a few Japanese artifacts.
