Watched the opening ceremonies. It was interesting. Bright, over-the-top, glittering...useless.
The spirit of the Olympics has been so commercialized. I used to like the idea of the Olympics. The competitive spirit. But now it is all politics. The corruption that has wormed its way into every aspect of the Games, from the using of professionals by the Eastern Bloc to the Steroids used by everyone.
I don't care that there are professionals or on steroids, I just wish they would be up-front with the whole thing.
There was some snickering about the fact that there are some countries that do not belong in the Winter Olympics. Countries such as Ethiopia, Trinidad(and why not Trinidad??), should not be there. Well if they make the Olympic qualifying standard, why shouldn't they eb there. Small countries inject new spirit into the games.
Anyways, I doubt I will be watching the games... I probably will be busy ...err, traveling.
