an1: this is for
ichiban_seiyaku (explanation in an2)
an2: this is... a really ugly follow up for
Except One, which exposes Yabu's feelings on the matter. But I wasn't able to execute it nicely at all. so maybe, when i'm not feeling so lazy, i'll come back to redo the entire fic. :)
an3: as i said, a response fic to
Except One.
Yabu loves Hey! Say! JUMP. He knows how far all of them have come, and he knows that there's still a lot of things they have to go through but he's here and he's filled with love and admiration (even though sometimes, exasperation equals the love he feels).
No one had appointed him as leader, but he is the oldest and by default, there are some things that fall into his area of responsibility. There are some (Inoo) who question his methods of leading, but somehow, it has always worked out despite circumstances.
He believes in being quiet support, in being a friend, in levelling with different mindframes. He believes in listening and comforting and consoling and talking and joking but at the same time, at not getting too close, not being too personal and not being too involved. (The only ones who are exceptions to this code are Yaotome and Inoo - but only because they have been together for far too long. They laugh at Yabu's rules, but he keeps them anyway.)
When they first became a group, he noticed Okamoto immediately. He was a little green, but entirely dedicated and Yabu promised to himself to watch a little more closely, to keep him safe.
Okamoto's special affections did not escape his notice. He knows they exist and he knows that they are real. He did not dismiss it, even with the knowledge. He did not want to crush the hope that Okamoto felt. What Yabu did was to take those feelings gently and took extra care not to pay special attention to anyone.
Slowly, Okamoto became less green but remained just as earnest, gaining indepedence and decidedly less infatuated.
Yabu is happy but at the same time, there is a slight bitter sting of regret that he feels from pushing away feelings, both his own and the boy he has come to admire's. But, he accepts that this is his responsibility, one that falls unto him because he is the oldest and that is to deny his own feelings, thinking of the well-being of the entire group. So he stands back, proud and strong. Because, he loves Hey! Say! JUMP most of all.
