Freed by DNA, Now Charged in New Crime I'm not sure why people see this as harming wrongfully convicted prisoners...Couldn't you make the case that wrongfully imprisoning someone causes emotional damage that leaves them more prone to commit crimes if/when they're released (and therefore we need to be more cautious about what constitutes a "reasonable doubt" when making convictions)? For that matter, couldn't this case be seen as a sign that the U.S. prison system needs to focus more on rehabilitation and less on punishment (if non-criminals are so damaged by time in jail that they become criminals)?
