Ok, this time about 3 weeks have gone by since my last update, which is slightly better than last time. I figure I should put something down right now or else I'm going to end up putting it off for who knows how long. Anyhow, here's a quick recap of the past couple of weeks.
Right before Spring Break started, my friend from Japan came here to hang out with me and some other people for a few days before he went to Juneau to visit his family. Good times were had by all while he was here. I ended up getting from him the FFX OST, a couple of Famitsu magazines, and Xenogears Perfect Works, which is really fucking awesome. The only drawback is that I don't know more Japanese, and as such can't really make out more than titles without resorting to online translations, none of which are complete.
As far as productivity goes, I can honestly say I didn't do jack shit during Spring Break. I did end up getting a great deal on a PS2, however. A friend of mine was having some trouble scrounging up money for rent, and so to fix that he sold me his system, FFX, and a memory card all for $250. What's really weird was that I wasn't jumping and screaming on the inside when he first made the offer, because at the time I'd become used to the idea of waiting until summer to pick one up after a price drop. But anyways, I've finally got one now, and I'm loving it. Since then, I've managed to borrow a few DVDs to try out (yes, this is my first player, I'm aware of how behind the times I am). Also, I picked up VF4, and damn, does this game ever kick ass. I've never really liked the VF series before, as fighters tended to jump 20 feet into the air, and it wasn't the type of game beginners could reallly get into. Thankfully, that's all changed with this new one. I've become decent with a couple characters, and my friend's given me plenty of competition over the past couple of weeks.
I have no idea how the hell I'm going to survive April. I've been getting hit left and right with these big end-of-class assingments. To date, I have two 15-minute presentations, a 7-10 page written report that will turn into a presentation right afterwards, and a CG project, the idea for which I just came up with a couple days ago. All of these are due the last week of April or thereabouts. On top of that, I still have weekly assingments for 2-3 of those classes, an exam on Friday, and another one next Friday as well as a presentation for my senior project class. I'm well aware that getting all of this done is going to require some serious time-management on my part, and I'm going to do my damndest to stay on track. I know I can pull it off, but I have a feeling I'm going to get really drained in the process. Oh well, if that's what it takes, then so be it.
Still no prospects for work after graduation. I checked out a Career Expo at the university last week, but almost all the companies there were based in Alaska, and the only tech company I saw was IBM, which does not have a Seattle base so it's out of the question. Speaking of which I found
this article that makes that Slashdot one look bright and cheery in comparison. Goddammit. I'm going to take my chances either come October though, outlooks be damned.
At the rate I'm going with these and with all I've said, I'm guessing my next entry will be around mid-May, maybe earlier. Not that I'm intending to wait until then to do it, but that's just my feeling.
