Wow, what a weekend. Packed with as much as possible. Father's day and Summer Solstice today. Longest day of the year. Which was good, because it needed to be long enough to fit it all in. But let's start with a quick recap: My Dad wanted to take Jack on a train ride, so we went to Portland - and back - on Tuesday. Hung out with our friends Shanti and her son Alden on Wednesday. I was worried because Alden walked in and grabbed the trucks that Jack had just been playing with, but they ended up playing together for the whole evening without a problem at all.
Thursday was band practice. I finally got together with Jonah and Mika to jam out on drums, and it was ahh-maze-ing! I'm super excited to be playing some tunes. Clyde and I also practiced for Heckfest recently, and that's gonna be sooo good. Okay, so after that I hit up the meeting for starting an Infoshop, which was right down the street at Gallery 1412. Pretty amazing experience, bringing together a lot of diverse diy community folks. Stoked to see what happens with that. Being a meeting, it took forever, and I just let my other plans go. That worked out really well when it turned out there was a horde heading back towards the U-dist on bike. I joined up, somehow getting to lead the fray towards Interlaken. This night ride, with lights and friends, was less terrifying than some of my recent excursions through this twisting urban black hole of a street. At the split-off point to the Burke-Gilman trail, we talked on and on, occupying an island with traffic on both sides. After much excited discourse, we all managed to just keep riding together to New Crompton, where pizza, Mario Kart and camaraderie filled out the evening. I biked home happy at 3am.
Friday was the radio show, and we Tasted the Rainbow of Cute, though it was a tad harder than I expected to put together a cute (specifically animal-themed) playlist. Crashed out, not looking forward to work on Saturday. It always creeps up on me when I'm working the day of the Solstice Parade. It's pretty crappy to miss it, and work was dead - as everyone was at some amazing parade... Anyhow, I made up for it by hitting the Iranian Fest, the Moore Inside Out, and the Ugly (is a Movie) benefit. I biked the whole way downtown, then past downtown, then the whole way to Seward Park. Stupid public transit! At least I had an amazing conversation with a woman and her 12-year-old son at the bus stop. Anyhow, there's so much more that can be said about these amazing things (not to mention all the other stuff I wanted to do), but I must mention that today was another incredible day.
I went to the Opening Celebration for Jenny's project The Corner: 23rd and Union, a totally mind-blowing experience. More on this to come, but for now just go clicky and check it out:
23rdandunion.org/. I must sleep and go celebrate a belated Father's Day by taking Jack on a grand excursion to the secrets held by low tide, train-yards, and the stars beyond.
It's good to write to you, let's talk soon!
