It's amazing how life can change in an instant. A moment. A question asked. A question answered. An explosion. A stab wound. A gun shot.
At first. Nothing. Vision blank. Face numb. Skin unfeeling.
Then. The pain seeps through. "Surely it's only a flesh wound."
No. The floodgates open. The pain. It rushes in. Demanding to be felt. Body ripped apart. Skinned from head to toe. Raw. Aching.
You lie on the floor. Writhing in agony. In pain. You reach up for help. He's standing above you. Cold. Distant. "You got a raw deal kid. It wasn't fair. But the pursuit of happiness is a selfish thing." He turns his back. Walks away.
You are bleeding out. Your life force slowly slipping through your fingers. You are left to suffer. Alone.
You become a ghost. A shell. Haunting the hallways. Viewing the world from the outside. Not really a part of anything. You don't belong.
Nowhere to go. You have only yourself. But YOU can't even be trusted. You are lost. Your mind. Senses. Have betrayed you.
Fold in upon yourself. Over and over. Becoming smaller. Less relevant. Until. Finally. Nothing is left.
