Can you please provide the s r g m... equivalent of Mungaru Male songs. I love to play it on my violin.

I'm not familiar with the Tablature form. If you can provide any link which gives information regarding how to convert Tablature to s r g m notation, that would be fine. In the mean time, I will search using google.

Thanks for the Mungaru Male notes :-)

I assume you know carnatic. The sa for this song is da in maayamaalava goura raaga (I hope i got the name correct, I just can't memorize this particular name. The root note being the open thinnest string on a veena - note E in western notation). The scale used is:

sa ri2 g1 ma1 pa da1 ni1 sa'

As you'll see in the tab below, ni2 is used as well (that's the off-note referred in note TWO in the post). Btw, I don't know the 3rd note notation (like ri3, da3 etc). The notation I'm giving here assumes the 12 note sequence sa, ri1, ri2, ga1, ga2, ma1, ma2, pa, da1, da2, ni1, ni2, back to sa.

Now, for the tabs of intro 4 lines (the capital notes are in the current octave, the small ones are in the immediate next octave):

SA RI GA RI SANi2, SAA RI RIGA RI SAA DAPA

DAPA MA GA RI GAA, DAPAA MA GA RI, SARIGAMAPADANi1sa

sa ri ga ri sani2, saa ri ga ri saa, sarigama mapa maa ga gama gaa ri

saNi1DAPAMAGARISA SARIGAMAPADANi2risaa

The relation between Tablature form and SRGM equivalent given by you is correct. The srgm equivalent holds good as long as C is Sa :)

> How is the tuning done in Guitar (Is it G3, N3, P, R2)?
If you take C as Sa, yes. Guitar has a standard tuning of its 6 strings - starting from the thickest string and going down notes are : E A D G B E (notes on the middle 4 strings can be remembered as "A Dog Got Bitten" or starting from thinnest string the whole sequence as "Every Bad Girl Deserves An Enemy"). The tablature in the post used only lower 4 strings (D G B E) as no notes need to be played on the remaining two.

Btw, from what you are saying violin tuning (sa pa sa pa) is same as on Veena :)

Hi,

Thanks for the information :-)

If Veena too has the tuning of Sa Pa Sa Pa, then YES... both Violin and Veena has the same tuning.

Just now, I saw your post on

~~ Guitar tabs for the title song of "Mungaru Male" ~~
(at http://manjlanata.livejournal.com/47852.html#cutid1),

I'm really excited to play it on my Violin. (Now that I also know the conversion between Guitar Tabs and SRGM equivalent :-) )

Thanks a lot for the notes :-)

Jai

Hi there,

I was following this link to play the intro. Would you be able to provide the tabs for full song? Do you have a video of it?

If so, could you forward it to sweet_sing85@yahoo.co.in?

Thanks in advance.
