Life Goes On

I'm a sucker for the losing team.

That said, I'm extremeley grateful that Kerry conceded the presidency to Bush with little objection. They waited to call it until it was clear that they could not win, which is only appropriate. I'm disappointed that Bush was reelected, but it's not as though his first move in his second term is going to be getting us all blown up. Meaning life will continue, and the most important thing is that we had a relatively smooth "transition" to a legitimate government. That was the other thing I was glad Kerry said in his concession speech: that, with the election behind us, we had to unite as Americans and lose our fierce grip on party identity.

I feel bad for all the people I met who worked their asses off for the Inez Tenebaum Senate campaign down here. That was perhaps a greater disappointment to me than anything else.

However, I am excited about the increase in voter turnout. People cared enough to wait in line for hours, well past the time the doors closed, just to let their voice be heard.

Now let us focus on making the most of the next four years, and look ahead to America's next chance to decided her fate. After all, there's always one more.
