Um...I really have no clue what I've done since my last entry. It's been a while. I do know that I had dinner with my mom and brother at Red Lobster last night. Quite possibly my worst visit there. But it worked out well in the end, I guess. I don't know. Then after that, I had to skip Powersource (now and forever) so I could check out my BCOM equipment and set it up in the BSU. I had to do my digital video production interview project. Mr. Tommy Johnson helped me with that. After Powersource, he swung by and the Jerk held a mic for me and we got it done in about 5-10 minutes. I don't know what else I've done lately. So here's some movie reviews:
The Birds-Hitchcock! My film and lit. classes last Hitchcock film of the semester (single tear). I have seen this once before like five or six years ago, but it was sooooooo much better this time. You know, since I've learned to read movies. I once thought this movie was actually about the birds attacking people. If you think that, you're wrong. Great movie.
Dinner at Eight-AFI's top 100 comedy! It really wasn't that funny as a whole, but it had its moments. If you want a movie from this time period that's actually very funny get either Duck Soup or Horse Feathers by the Marx Bros.
Floating Weeds-Ebert great film and James' list film! It's also Criterion which is another bonus. An actor returns to the town where his former lover and son live. It starts off pleasant enough. And beautiful camera-work. Very good movie.
A History of Violence-Whoa Cronenberg! Okay, I'm a Cronenberg fan, and I was pumped to finally see one of his films while it was still in the theater. Overall, a great movie. However, the sexuality at some points was a little uncalled for. Or maybe not uncalled for, but definitely more graphic than they probably could have been. But anyway, great movie.
A Story of Floating Weeds-another Ozu rounding out the Criterion title! The original version that Ozu remade as Floating Weeds decades later. Again, beautifully shot, but not as much as Floating Weeds. Same story as well. Obviously. A good set of movies.
Tokyo Story-another Ozu Criterion! James, this totally should have been on your list instead of Floating Weeds. An elderly couple go to Tokyo to visit their grown children. Almost all of them are too busy to spend time with the parents, so they usually get dished off on the widow of one of their sons who actually appreciates them. The end is sad, but if you don't get the message to cherish family from this film, I'm pretty sure you are without a heart. Watch this film!
Um...I've got some good movies lined up. Happy Together (Wong Kar-Wai), Incident at Loch Ness (starring Werner Herzog), Scarecrow (Pacino and Hackman film from the 70's), Big Deal on Madonna Street (Criterion), The Long Good Friday (Criterion), Branded to Kill (Seijun Suzuki Criterion I borrowed from my prof.), and The Browning Version (another Criterion). I'm currently at 145 Criterion films on my count. I'm well on my way to achieving my 150 Criterions by Christmas goal. Woot. Okay, the new South Park's about to come on. And did anyone catch the Colbert Report yet? Yes, punditry mockery! Have a good one.
