So Fidelity sent me this literature...

Jun 20, 2009 12:30

...regarding a new set of proposals from the Board of Trustees. The first proposal is regarding the election of a new Board. Yawn.

The second proposal (called proposal three in the literature) is about genocide.

Seriously (verbatim):

"Shareholder proposal for Fidelity Freedom 2010 Fund, Fidelity Freedom 2020 Fund, Fidelity Freedom 2025 Fund, Fidelity Freedom 2030 Fund, Fidelity Freedom 2040 Fund, Fidelity Freedom 2045 Fund, Fidelity Freedom 2050 Fund, Fidelity Asset Manager 50%, Fidelity Asset Manager 70%, Fidelity Intermediate Bond Fund, Fidelity Investment Grade Bond Fund, Fidelity Cash reserves, and Fidelity U.S. Government Reserves concerning procedures to prevent holding investments in companies that, in the judgment of the Board, substantially contribute to genocide or crimes against humanity."
 Paraphrased:
Shareholder proposal from Fidelity concerning procedures to prevent investing in companies that, we think, substantially contribute to genocide or crimes against humanity.
Above this proposal:

"THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES RECOMMENDS A VOTE AGAINST THE FOLLOWING:"

Punchline:
Fidelity wants me to vote against a measure that prevents investment in companies that substantially contribute to genocide or crimes against humanity.

With Rachael's assistance, I have drafted a letter to the board as well as letters to Amnesty International, The Human Rights Watch, and Save Darfur. I am contacting every local TV station as well as local print media.

If you have shares to vote in this proposal (if so, you should have received a letter similar to mine), I strongly urge you to vote FOR proposal three. If you know anyone who has shares, I ask you to urge them to vote for proposal three.

If you know ANYONE who could help me spread the word about this, PLEASE comment.
