Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

So, you all knew it was coming, seeing as I've been excited about this movie since, oh, I'd say about January. Saw it Wednesday night. Absolutely...fucking...LOVED it! Every minute of it! Just wonderful. And we had the BEST audience too.

1) The theatre was packed, first of all. And there were a good number of people dressed up as pirates, which amused me to NO end. Mostly late high school and college aged kids there. Guys and girls. All seemed to be into the movie from the very first frame.
2) As soon as the movie began, a large amount of the audience yelled "ARRG!". Whee to that!
3) Johnny Depp's entrance: Classic. Loved it. And that's just the beginning of how much I loved Johnny in this movie. Oh, and as soon as he came on screen, the whole audience clapped and cheered.
4) Orlando Bloom is just too cute in this film. He's all innocent and lovey-dovey with Keira Knightly (who was also adorable). I loved when he came to Gov. Swann's house and broke the candle holder. :)
5) When Captain Jack Sparrow and Will Turner first meet -- gotta love it. Best part:
Will: "You cheated." *dumbfounded look on his face*
Jack: "Pirate!"
6) I was amused at the slap-stick comedy. Made for more fun action sequences (especially with the bonking on the heads leading to unconsciousness, a la a Looney Toon cartoon...or should I say Mickey Mouse, since this *is* Disney)
7) The two cursed pirates who kept hanging out together (the ones who dressed in drag and the one who had a glass eye) were *so* lovers. seanynjboy and I just decided that one right off the bat.
8) Geoffrey Rush is the man. That's all I need to say. :)
9) And, since I'm talking about actors, let's get on with the star of the show, Mr. Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow.
HOW GREAT WAS HE??? Every time he was on camera, you watched him, and not just because he is one of the most beautiful men of creation. He was just hysterical and PERFECT! I never knew Johnny Depp had such wonderful comedic talents, but they are in full force in "Pirates of the Caribbean". I don't think I could even pick one favorite Jack moment or line, because so many were just so great. He was silly, and flamboyant, and ridiculous, and so lovable, and you really rooted for him. I mean, yeah of course you are gonna root for Will, but Jack's just so much more fun. He's the renegade, Indiana Jones/Robin Hood character who is just so much fun and so charismatic that you leave the theatre loving every weird quirk about him. Johnny Depp definitely picked a great part and a great movie for his first really big budget summer movie.
10) The story itself was a lot of fun. Lots of action/comedy/adventure/romance/etc. that make a great summer movie. It is definitely good to be rated at PG-13 (like the Indiana Jones movies), because, while there isn't really any foul language or sex or gratuitous violence, there *are* a lot of scary moments/images with the undead pirates of The Black Pearl that might scare little kids a lot. But it was a good mix, otherwise. I think the PG-13 rating was perfect, because it draws in the younger boys as well as the older boys who like action flicks without exposing the younger ones to too much. And they are all entertained.
12) I want Orlando Bloom's hat! It was the coolest hat ever. And he would make a WONDERFUL d'Artagnan. At the end of the movie, he fits the book description of d'Artagnan to a T.
13) I wouldn't be at all surprised if this movie spawns a franchise. From the movie itself as well as the reactions I've read of others, I wouldn't be surprised that, come 2005 or 2006, we have Pirates of the Caribbean, Part 2 on our hands.
14) Will/Jack/Elizabeth = One True Threesome. They all SO wanted each other. And Jack and Elizabeth slept together on the beach. You can't convince me otherwise.
15) prettypinkkitty and I want to start a "Rocky Horror Picture Show" type following/viewing of "Pirates of the Caribbean". It really does scream for that kind of a treatment and that kind of a legacy. I think she and I should go see it together and both keep notebooks with little ideas about what we can do at certain points during the film. *firm nod*

And, as a final note, about half-way through the movie, thealmightybob said, "This movie *so* wins." Also, when the movie ended, the entire audience clapped and cheered. That hasn't happened to me at the movies in a long, long, LONG time. I think that pretty much just sums up how enjoyable this movie really is.

Now, I just have to wait for the DVD to come out. Or to go see it again in the theatres. ;)

I now have another fandom. I feel so happy now. :D
