at one point during the second set i thought to myself, i can't believe i've sat through nearly two hours of solo accordion music. and enjoyed it immensely. minutes later sue said the same to me.
it was a small crowd out for the final concert of the season to hear
len wallace. during the first sing-along, union maid, len remarked we sang like a bunch of presbyterians. by the final song and the encore, both stan rogers songs, we were singing with gusto.
len mixed comic deprecating accordion and socialist humour with union songs, polkas, celtic jigs, quebecois reels, and virtuoso pieces. he also occasionally got on his soap box and proclaimed his unwavering, shining hopeful socialist faith, mixed with the odd story of joe hill or pete seeger.
opening the show was mundy's bay's own Duct Tape Balladeer,
Sean McGaughey. he opened with the brilliant
The Future Ain’t What it Used to Be.
afterwards, sue and i watched the oilers win the series opener in anaheim. it was a good night all round.
the mundy's bay folk society season starts again sept 22.
