I will roundhouse kick that teddy bear scarecrow if he tries anything.

I asked Mollie if she wanted to go to the Montana Corn Maze with me and she immediately said yes. Neither of us is from Montana, so a labyrinth made of crops is a new experience. Especially for little Otto, who petted the hay bales and tried to toss his ball to a sleeping pig.

We wandered through the maze, having Otto point which direction he wanted us to go. We ended up in a cow pasture at one point. And I had been too impatient to pay attention to the guy who explained the scavenger hunts, so I was alarmed to find a teddy bear scarecrow named Chubby. If you’ve met me, you’ve likely heard my diatribes against scarecrows, thanks to the Scholastic Fair Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark series. Every scarecrow is Harold to me, even if it’s a teddy bear.

We escaped both Chubby and the smelly cow pasture, then eventually escaped the maze itself. We were waiting for the tractor chauffeur to pick us up when I heard crashing noises behind us. I looked around to see a cranky kid plowing through the wall of corn to get out of the maze, trampling everything in his way. In his defense, it gets pretty tricky at the end. And I assume the bloodthirsty teddy bear scarecrows were chasing him.
