40. Fairley, Linda Bundles of Joy
PB, non-fiction, borrowed from a friend, 294 pages

The continuing story of Linda Fairley's 40 years as a midwife. I'm so glad she continued after 'The Midwife's Here'. I loved reading about the happy, the sad, the miraculous, the tragic and the unexpected deliveries, interspersed with snippets involving family and friends. (6/6)

41. Darrell, Elizabeth Czech Mate
HB, mystery, not keeping, 218 pages

A Max Rydal mystery, set in Germany in the lead up to Christmas. A military truck and its driver has gone missing,, and there's a brutal attack on a young boy at a fancy dress party. A high-level chess convention is in town. There are some really creepy characters. I eventually figured out whodunnit before the reveal, but not why, although I think I should have realised sooner than I did.

42. Anthony, Piers Under a Velvet Cloak
PB, fantasy, my copy, 218 pages

Incarnations of Immortality #8. I loved the first 5, wasn't as keen on the next 2, and have waited over 20 years to read this one. What I should have done was a reread to familiarise myself with the characters and plots as this final tale, Nox's story, ties up some loose ends and I wasn't sure I remembered everything. Having said that, it didn't really matter as I found I followed the plot line just fine. Morgan le Fey sends Kerena to seduce Sir Gawain to prevent him from locating the Holy Grail. They fall in love and she conceives his child, a child who is cursed to die an early death. She seeks the Incarnations of Immortality to enlist their aid to remove the taint on her child. When they don't, she vows revenge. (6/6)

44. Lake, M.D. Amends for Murder
PB mystery, not keeping, 215 pages

A Peggy O'Neill mystery. She's a Campus Cop. Copyright 1989, the technological aspects of computers at the university don't date well! Professor Warren ends up with his skull smashed in. There are several suspects, in Peggy's opinion, but the city cops want to blame a computer thief. An average read - not in a hurry to find any other titles in the series. (3/6)

45. Carlisle, Kate The Lies That Bind
PB mystery, not keeping, 275 pages

Third in the 'Bibliophile' series (I read the second one recently), Brooklyn Wainwright is back to solve another murder, this time Layla Fontaine, director of Bay Area Book Arts, where Brookyn has been engaged to teach a bookbinding class, is found murdered. Layla wasn't nice, so good riddance, and I picked whodunnit in a timely fashion. (4/6)

46. Hunter, Faith Host
PB, fantasy, not keeping, 310 pages

I repeatedly tell myself not to buy second or third books second-hand in fantasy trilogies unless I have access to all of the series. TBH, I only gave the blurb a cursory glance as i was in a hurry and it wasn't clear it was the 3rd in a trilogy. Oh, well. The back story and lead up to the finale would have been clearer if I'd read the others. Thorn St Croix must rally the townspeople of Mineral City to save them from Darkness, but her loyalty is tested by someone she lost to the Dark - her twin sister. Angels and Devils walk the earth in the aftermath of Armageddon, according to the back cover. (3.5/6)

47. Raye, Kimberly The Sex Solution
PB romance, not keeping, 246 pages

Madeline has returned after 12 years. She left a chubby bookworm and returned the Chief Chemist for cosmetics company VAMP to be bridesmaid for her friend. She's working on an aphrodisiac lotion to excite all of the senses, and she plans to test them out on Austin, her high school crush she'd tutored in chemistry. (4.5/6)

48. Denison, Janelle The Ultimate Seduction
PB romance, not keeping, 243 pages

PI Noah Summers wants Natalie, but she's had a bad experience with a controlling ex-boyfriend. When she's hit by a car, and left with amnesia, Noah pretends to be her fiance in order to protect her. Creepy stalker ex is back in town and after Natalie. What will happen when she regains her memory? Of course it all works out in the end. (4/6)

49. Leto, Julie Elizabeth Seucing Sullivan
PB romance, not keeping, 210 pages

It's a reunion special! Angela has spent 10 years wondering about Jake Sullivan, and now she's determined to find out. She has an adopted daughter Dani, and Jake is the dad, only he doesn't know it. (4/6)

50. Minger, Elda Night Rhythms
PB romances, not keeping, 210 pages

It's another high school reunion, this time for Mega and Daniel. Everyone thinks Meg is a mega- success when she returns to her small town for the reunion, but that's all based on a set up photo and grapevine gossip. Meg and Daniel both need to put the past to rest before they can have a future.
