Right before leaving for work, I saw a reddit thread titled "What did you have in 1999 that you don't have now?" My first thought was hair, but it was definitely something that I continued to think about throughout the night. I never really did come up with any good answers. Besides hair, the only other things I could think of were my virginity and that I had a girlfriend (at least for part of the year). I guess I could also say excitement for the future. I was 18, recently graduated from high school, just starting college and I had my whole life ahead of me. I will say though that even though it has been a while, I am hoping to tap back into that at some point.
I also asked a coworker that question and his immediate answer was money. He was single, living at home and had a high paying full time job. Now he is married with kids and is dealing with the fact that he has been living in debt. He is actually trying to fix that problem though and he is making headway.
Some other interesting things in the thread were change for a pay phone and a change jar for when making long distance calls (yes that used to be a big deal). I only found those interesting because they basically don't exist at all any more.
Another work thought that basically came out of nowhere was I got to thinking that maybe next semester I will try to make it to the Chair Game during Rush Week. Assuming they still do it. I've been gone for so long that nobody in the fraternity knows me, or even what I look like, so I think it could be fun. The only flaw is that there are fellow alumni from the fraternity that still live locally that could show up and blow my cover. It's a risk that I might take though. It all depends on how I am feeling come Rush Week and if it corresponds with my days off. Course, I have lots of vacation I never really have anything to do with, so that could be an option as well.
Last thought. Now that I have begun cooking again and having food at the house, I tend to have some extra money at the end of the week. I've always enjoyed playing the lottery, but don't like buying tickets and then cashing them in. I'm thinking about getting the PA lotto app for my phone and putting some money on there to play every week. I figure that would both be easy and convenient, if not potentially expensive, but you have to play to win.
