painting a picture

on my bed, looking out the window.  cool breeze, hot face.  (the hot face is because i'm drinking my post-work beer and that is just what happens to me)  anyway, someone's wind chimes are ringing on their porch and it's that awesome not-too-close-to-be-obnoxious but just-close-enough-to-be-totally-perfect sound...   a boy is coming over any minute now and we're going to lilac festival where we will sit on a quilt made by me and watch the sun go down and hopefully it's warm and hopefully there is a good band playing. later i will visit some other friends, some old and some new and maybe some yet to be made.

i think about where i've been, what i've done, and who i'm privileged to know and i am happy.  it's amazing what can happen in a life.  and once again i will quote the pearl of the old lady i waited on at chatauqua: "life is people".

a few weekends ago i went on a trip to see about a beer festival and i was the only girl among 4 men.  at the end of the trip, my friend said to me "i am glad you came" and hugged hugged hugged me.  and the ride home i was thinking about what that means, and how really that is all we can ask for.  to be with someone and at the end have them say i am glad you were here.  what a gift.  to have a presence in their life, in their house, in their car, in their moment, and to come out the other side and just be glad that they existed.  so many thanks i have to say for the people in my life.
