I just got home from workzies. For the first five hours I stuffed envelopes with Christmas cards that went out to alumni, former teachers/faculty, and board members/donors. I worked across from Dorris, who is on her summer break from school in Canberra. She taught me basic phrases in Cantonese and Mandarin and I taught her the same phrases in Spanish and French.
Dorris' job was to forge Christina Tung's signature on a very Christ-heavy Christmas card... a task I was ordered to finish when she had to run things to the printshop. Oooh HKIS.
In the lift on my way home I heard the following adorable conversation:
Little British Child waves around a half-stick of Pocky
LBC: LET'S PUT IT IN THE FISHTANK!!
His Mother: Dahling, do you think that's a good idea?
LBC: YES
HM: Really?
LBC nods emphatically.
Mother's Friend: Oh! How many fish do you have?
LBC: We had four but three died!
HM: And how did that make Daddy feel?
LBC: SA-- realization --ad....
MF: Oh goodness.
...
LBC: WE COULD PLANT IT WITH THE FLOWERS!
HM: I think that's a prize idea, dahling.
