I: Have online discussions caused you to stop liking any fandoms? If so, which ones and why?
Oh god, why.
Homestuck. Plain and simply Homestuck. I love the comic. I love the characters. I love the fanworks! And the fandom sent me spiraling into depression.
Don’t get me wrong; the Homestuck fandom is/was one of the most creative, widespread, amazing phenomenon I’ve ever experienced. I am forever in awe of what has come out of that community. I met one of my best friends in it (hi Maija!). But at the same time it sucked me dry. People you thought were amazing turn out to be poisoning you. There’s backstabbing and bad talk behind people’s back. People who spent months as the closest of friends wear each other down so bad that the falling out is painful and bitter and can never be recovered from. Love literally turns to hate. It’s super ugly.
As much as I wish I could forgive it, I will never, ever get back into the Homestuck fandom. I will probably write for it again one day, but never will I allow that poison back in my life.
