You know--if I wasn't an artist, I would have become an entomologist. Someone who studies insects. When I was little (we're talking like the third grade and earlier here), the only books I ever owned--where text books on insects and all the different species. I new the scientific names of all my favorite insects--you point to a bug on the floor, I could tell you all about it. I was a freaking bug WIZZ.
I've let a lot of that scientific knowledge slip from my memory now, unfortunately--but insects still play an important part in a lot of my storylines and illustrations. And I wouldn't mind bringing more emphasis to that...
I mean, have you ever looked at insects--from an artistic point of veiw? Man--I don't even think you need to in order to recognise the beauty in these creatures.
Unfortunately, most people seem to be so caught up in the "icky" factor that they seem to have created for themselves some how.
How can something so gorgeous and fantastical--be 'icky'?
there needs to be more artistic homages to insects, I think.
