Genealogical Projects

Sep 19, 2009 13:43

On-and-off during the past 8 months or so, I've been trying to get together some Information from Various Sources for some Genealogical Projects that I have in mind....

Back in May, I managed to get something *vaguely* resembling 'Floor Plans', from The Flintshire Records Office, for the Mansion that my Branch Line had in Wales, Calcot Hall, before my Ancestor came out to Australia in 1847

I don't know when we actually stopped living in Calcot Hall, but, from a couple of 'Clues' that I've been able to find here and there, we may well have set the....'Wheels in Motion' to move out some 6 years prior to that

Last Owner that *I* have any Information about, was a 'Mrs Dunhill', thanks to a Survey that was done in 1910

The Plans that I got from The Flintshire Records Office were Proposed Alterations that were Drafted in 1902....according to that Survey in 1910, I know at least *some* of these Alterations were carried out, but, as I don't have any other Photos from that particular time other than a few Front Views, I'll be making it as it would appear going by the 1902 Plans, as Calcot Hall was alas torn down some 40 years ago :-(

I have since been in further Contact with The Flintshire Records Office in regards to whatever they may have similar for a couple of other places that Branches of my Family have lived in....namely....Talacre Hall and Mostyn Hall

Now, Talacre Hall got sold off in 1917 and was given to an Order of Catholic Nuns, and was from then known as Talacre Abbey for a number of years, and has since become a Private Home again, but has now changed its Name once again, and is now available to Rent

In seeking Assistance in regards to Talacre Hall, I managed to get in Contact with the Brother of the Late Baronet Mostyn, and Uncle to the Current one

A Major Coup, I can tell you, as he has been kind enough to make Available to me a number of Old Photos that he had, as well as some more recent ones that he took when he Visited The Old Hall only a few weeks ago

Alas, the *other* Branch, that of Baron Mostyn, haven't been anywhere near as Forthcoming :-(

*LONG* Story there, but, suffice to say that it is effectively being held in Trust, as, the Last Lord Mostyn passed away in 2000, and the Present Lord Mostyn wants nothing to do with the place, and so at the moment, it's being held in Trust for *his* Son

Oh well, I'll just have to make do with whatever I can get from The Flintshire Records Office, I guess

Not to mention the Aerial Photo thanks to Google Earth :-D

As well as whatever *other* Photos I might be able to find On-Line

Now, that's all as far as Wales goes (even though we *did* have a few more Mansions here and there at some time or another)

Moving on to Australia, and we had a Mansion out here as well

This one was in the Sydney area (Longueville, to be Precise), and was known merely as 'Wanella'

Alas, it was torn down back around 1987 after the last Member of my Family that was living there, passed away

I have been in Contact with Lane Cove Council (who also do Longueville), and sadly, their Records only go back to 1963, and Wanella would have been Built at least 40 years earlier than that, if not earlier still

I have since Written a few Letters to Members of my Family, to see if *they* might have anything....like Photos or whatever

Hmmmm....

I'm feeling a bit like Phssthpok the Pak from Protector, as he did his Research in The Pak Library, and got the other Pak Protectors there to help him with his Project

Except in *my* case, though I am certainly of the Correct Age to be a Pak Protector (42), and I am Childless, like Phssthpok, *I'm* not trying to make an Interstellar Ship to go Seeking a Pak Expedition from some 1,500,000 years earlier....

No, all *I'm* trying to do is find Records of something that was torn down 22 years ago, for which there appears to be no Records of anymore....

Compared to *that*, maybe the Interstellar Ship might be easier?? :-p
