The young people in my life give me hope for the future. When I was in undergrad we had some clever parties that always, of course, involved adult beverages. But we weren't total idiots about it.
When I was in grad school we would have parties at every opportunity. Some were themed. Some were ridiculous. But all were always invited. It would turn out to be a big mix of grad students, undergrads, school of music admin people and professors. But everybody behaved themselves. It wasn't a drunken orgy. It was young adults hanging out, behaving themselves, dancing, being silly and having a good but safe time.
And now that I've gotten myself all growed up and with child I see the party announcements of the little ones whom I left behind when I finished grad school and it makes me smile. White elephant parties. Cookie exchanges. Ice skating down town with cookies and cider. I love it! I hope I can teach Gracie to grow up to be like these teen/early twenty somethings.
