The life of a mother is never dull. However, finding time to actually sit down and write about my own personal thoughts and feeling comes few and far between. I spend more time cleaning spilled milk and poopy diapers than I do on my own peace of mind lately. At the moment, I am sick, just began a new long term substitute teaching position (which is proving a tad overwhelming), and trying to figure out how to discipline a 16 month old all at the same time. Cullen has started hitting when he's angry. Popping his hand seems to be the wrong way to go about showing him that this is inappropriate behavior, so I am sort of at a loss. We are doing the best we can with it right now. Soon he'll understand ALL of the words that we speak and we will be able to explain things better. Cullen has also been sick (which is probably where I picked up this nasty bug)...he went to the doctor the day that I went back to work. He had a double ear infection and was wheezing. He had to have a breathing treatment at the doctor's office, but wasn't sent home with anything because the wheezing was minor. He has to go to an ENT to consult because of SO MANY ear infections, so it seems, we are looking at tubes in the near future. I know that this is a very MINOR surgery that happens a trillion times a day to kids the world over...but those aren't my babies and I'm so scared of the anesthesia. It makes me so anxious to imagine my baby being drugged until he goes to sleep, unable to wake. But, I also want to be the last thing he sees before he goes to sleep and the first thing he sees when he wakes up. Mommies make us feel safe, and that is exactly how I want Cullen to feel.
The holidays are upon us in the middle of all of this chaos. I was really looking forward to the Christmas season this year until we all got sick! Assuming that we're all feeling better, we're planning on taking Cullen to see Santa on Saturday! I can't wait to see his reaction! I would LOVE one of those classic, traumatizing Santa pictures :) We'll see how it goes in just a few short days! Santa has already dropped quite a few gifts off in Mommy and Daddy's closet....he's a busy man on Christmas Eve, his journey is shortened by FedExing gifts to parents sometimes! I can't wait to see Cullen witness the magic of Christmas this year!
