Humidathon, Pancakes, and Executions

It's day 3 of the Humidathon. Today's heat index is supposed to be around 105*! Our poor air conditioner is running nonstop and the air still feels sticky indoors. Outdoors, it's like trying to breathe warm jello. The air is just so heavy and hot. I can't believe it's possible to have this much humidity and no rain. I have to water my plants like crazy to keep them alive, and my poor callas are just drooping!

Of course, they're still having football practice. Yesterday the boys came home absolutely drenched in sweat and they drank gallons of water as soon as they walked through the door. Even the dog doesn't want to stay outside, and his feline companion has managed to inspire enough pity that I let him in, too, even though he isn't our cat and I'm allergic.

It's so hot, even with the A/C on full blast, that I don't even want to cook, but the kids wanted pancakes today. I experimented with my whole wheat pancake recipe, added bananna slices and topped them with a light dusting of confectioner's sugar, and they were heavenly! I have turned my family into whole-wheat-eaters. We don't buy white bread anymore, and I only use white flour to thicken soups and sauces (until I run out of what I've got... then I'll switch that to wheat, too, if it works.) I can't believe my family is buying this whole healthy-eating thing I've got going on. Yay!

And it's working. I put on my skinny jeans the other day. 10 pounds down, 28 to go. If I can get my family to keep junk out of the house, I think I can do it. It's when they bring home ice cream and snackies that I fall off the wagon. Especially ice cream. I can not resist ice cream.

On a more depressing note, I made the mistake of watching a documentary about a 16-year-old girl's execution in Iran for adultery after being raped by a man older than her own father, and can't stop thinking about her. This is why I really shouldn't watch TV. But how ethical is it to live in a world where this sort of thing happens and NOT hear her story and get upset about it? And the man? He got 96 lashes. Figures.

Hmmm... I should end this on a happy note.

I got nothin', sorry.
