Aww, dad, you really shouldn't have!

A week ago there was a train crash just outside Split and the news went out in the world. There were 6 dead and over 40 injured. Two days after the crash I spoke to my father (who is still in Libiya) via Skype and near the end of our chat he tells me that when he heard about the crash he got a bit worried that I might have been in that train (as I used to travel with it to visit my friend in other city). And then he says he's been watching the news every day to see if I'm on the list of casualties - but the list never came out.

Gee, thanks father for watching out for me. Would you call to see how I am AFTER you've seen I'm on the list? (hm, depends on which list, if you know what I mean. I don't think he'd bother if I was on the 'dead' list - no point really, is there?)

And yesterday he even called me (as compared to text messages in previous years) to wish me happy b-day and said "Happy birthday, son!"

My father is something worse than a parody of a father.

P.S. I found this today on the Guardian website - Oh shit, I'm a Dad I thought it might be appropriate for a such entry...I think if my father wasn't such a cheapskate he might have given some kind of donation to the owner of the blog...probably enough money for a plane ticket so the guy can run away or something.

family, shit
