Went and saw "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" Thursday after taking a shower. I considered a bath but I was staying at a place occupied by 4 men and by the looks of their toilet, a bath may not have left me cleaner or more relaxed. I don't usually laugh out loud in movie theatres, but this one had many patrons laughing, including myself. I love going to see a movie alone.
After the movie I went to Iowa City in the rain and got through 30 pages of Ellis' 'The Rules of Attraction' when Chuck strolled in wet from rain. We walked around IA City in the rain for awhile before stepping into a little bar called The Green Room. A band was on stage who we thought might be The Slip, but it ends up they were Dr Z's Experiment. They are from Cedar Rapids and I was quite impressed w/their music.
We were each through a couple of beers by the time The Slip came on. Their first set was somewhat experimental, killing any chance at bootyshakin'. I chatted up the Dr Z's dudes during set break (kind of developed a crush on the guitar player). The Slip's second set was everything I wanted and some of what I did not expect. Chuck said I was dancing with more emotion than anyone else there, damnit I like that "Beedle To The Badlands" tune. Crashed back at Kees' Thursday night.
Got back from Des Moines yesterday. Now I can't stop thinking about the next show. I'm thinking about Addison Groove Project, Leftover Salmon, and Dark Star Orchestra for April.
