...we keep going forward, cause we can't find reverse!
-Lyrics to a very bad song that my Wookie likes to sing loudly and off-key.
I've been a long time fan of Star Trek: TNG, although the original Star Trek series always makes me cringe. I liked all the characters more or less equally, although holding extra affection for the droid of course, and more than a little respect for Picard. I even liked Wesley although later on (after meeting the Wookie that is) it became clear that I was pretty much alone in my opinion. It seems like everyone HATED Wesley, calling him the Weasel or the Whiner or other such childish names. Evidently it got to the point where Wesley was so universally loathed that the actor Wil Wheaton got booed off stages at various Star Trek Cons. Oi. I guess folks didn't quite "get it" that Wil Wheaton was an actor, not a writer, and was simply doing the lines he was given.
Regardless, I recently went off my beaten path and read a semi-autobiography written by Mr. Wheaton about the years he spent on the TNG set, how and why he got out of his contract and why we didn't see a whole lot of him since. He's a fair writer that shows a lot of promise and where he seems to have found both his groove and some peace. If you have some space on your library card I would recommend picking up 'Just a Geek' by W. Wheaton - it's an easy read and definitely shatters whatever preconception one might have of 'that kid who played on TNG'.
