Yesterday Shawna and I went to Banyen Books. Banyen is my downfall - it is a huge hippy bookstore with massive sections on everything a girl like me could possibly want. Although they lock up all their Crowley for some weird reason. Anyway.
Shawna is interested in Voodoo and Santeria. (Yeah, I'm using the crap spelling, so sue me.) Because I am awesome, I found her Santeria Stories, Mama Lola: A Vodou Priestess in Brooklyn and A Haitian Vodou Handbook. She purchased the latter, and intends to buy the other two in the future. I was wary of the book when I first flipped through it because it mentioned some Wiccan-esque techniques (circle casting) but there was a recommendation on the back by John Michael Greer, who wrote that monster book I adore, and there was a chapter on cultural appropriation so I figured it would be worth a read anyway. Bonus point: not published by Llewellyn.
Obviously if anyone has read it and has an opinion on the book, do not hesitate to tell me.
