a. What initially prompted me to like the character enough to write about him/her.
Actually... Chuck Austen. (Please don't throw things!) It was during Austen's run on X-Men that Northstar was brought in to work at the Academy and I loved him. Austen may have had some issues, but he wrote a wonderfully bitchy JP. So anyway, the potential Iceman/Northstar made me go read fics about that pairing and I always meant to write one myself but I never got around to it. Then when JP showed up in Ultimate as this little scenester-looking kid (his short hair was perfect! I don't dig the long hair so much. He looks too much like Forge) I nearly had a fit and when Kirkman ripped us off of his and Piotr's date I was fed up enough to finally work the guy into a fic.
And I started writing him at TM cos eldee made me. Hee. (My sister was shocked - she thought for sure I'd apply for Chamber.)
b. One of his/her best traits.
This is a hard question because he's pretty horrible. Hmmm. His loyalty.
c. One of his/her worst traits.
His ego. Here is a man who just honestly does not care about anything unless it affects him personally. It's funny in a way because you don't really think about how horrible that is until you consider that if given the choice between saving millions of people and say, his sister, he'd pick his sister in a heartbeat and not feel even slightly guilty about being responsible for mass genocide.
d. How easy/difficult I find it to write the character.
Initially I found it hard to figure out where he stood on Big Important Topics, but after realising he's essentially the most selfish man alive it all seemed to click into place and now it's easy. (Which should tell you something about my own ego.)
e. The story/chapter/paragraph/phrase where I feel that I truly captured the character.
I'm not sure I've done that yet, actually.
f. My plans (if any) to write the character in the near future.
I plan to finish Tabula Rasa, which will wind up having a fair amount of JP in it since Piotr's going to be... well. You know. All fucked up. And I have no intentions of quitting TM anytime in the near future because I'm enjoying myself way too much.
