There is a crank window in the wall behind the kitchen sink. There is a storm window and then the two panels of glass that crank out to let in fresh air, should there be a screen window instead of a storm one in place. Bugs tend to collect between the glass in the window and a Praying Mantis had gotten in with them last week. Chris and I had been observing the Praying Mantis and had assumed that if it wanted to get out, that it would.

Last night when I turned on the light above the sink, I glanced up to see what the Praying Mantis was up to. It had been staring off into space or gazing longingly at a bug, but when the light went on, the Praying Mantis turned to me. It stared right at me and seemed to beat its front legs, the ones usually bent in "prayer," against the window. The Praying Mantis seemed to be saying or pleading, "Let me out! Let me out!"

I went out and told this to Chris. Well, I told him that the Praying Mantis had told me to let it out and that it had beat its tiny fists upon the glass.

I felt bad and I felt as though I had to do something. The gear box that operates that particular window is broken. So, I went outside and used a bungee cord to hold the window open to enable the Praying Mantis to leave if it wanted to.

This afternoon, I stopped by the window to see if the Praying Mantis was still there, but it was not. Perhaps I had properly understood its request.
