Now that my week at Brown is over, my family's taking me on a college tour of New England. We've just arrived at Middlebury, VT, and tomorrow I have a tour and interview at Middlebury College scheduled. After getting settled in the hotel we decided to go visit the campus. We drove past the gym, the indoor tennis courts, the golf course, and then all of a sudden we were in the middle of farmland and both my mom and I went "Where the hell did the college go?!" Turns out we'd missed the Admissions office, which is what we'd been looking for, and the actual dorms and school buildings were off a side street. The campus itself, though, is in the middle of NOWHERE. Granted the view is unbelievable but still - middle of nowhere. It's completely isolated, and even the town nearby is less of a town and more of a 200 year old hamlet. I may live in my own teeny tiny town, but it's 15 minutes away form a major city, and I'm so used to living near real civilization that I don't know how I'd acclimatize. And when we were walking around I just got this weird vibe and the sinking feeling that I don't belong here. But who knows - maybe after I take the tour and find out more about the school and what it has to offer my first impression will change.
