"Oh no." Is the first thing that comes out of Kibum's mouth when he sees a thick blanket of snow outside his bedroom window. He shudders momentarily, but not because it's cold as he stands there in his boxers and wife-beater, ready for a new day.

No no, it's because he knows that when he somehow gets into work - he has a prediction that it's going to take him longer than his usual fifteen minutes today - he's going to be met by a hyper co-worker who is going to do anything to make him come outside and play.

Kibum sighs.

"This is going to be a long day."

"Kibummie! Did you see the snow?! It's beautiful isn't it?"

Donghae is rambling in his ear and Kibum tries with whatever means he can to block him out. He's trying to focus on something his boss gave him, but it's kind of hard when you have a babbling idiot for a best friend.

"Yah, you're not even listening." Donghae pouts, giving Kibum's chair a kick.

Kibum rolls his eyes and corrects his glasses. "Of course I am, Hae. I always listen to you." He says as he turns, eyebrow cocked in feighed ignorance as if he has no idea how the older boy would ever accuse him of such a thing as not listening.

Donghae frowns for a second; it seems he's thinking. But then a smile breaks out on his lips and he launches forward, arms around Kibum's neck.

"Great!" He says with a grin, ignoring Kibum's efforts to get him off of him. "Then I'm glad you didn't mind when I said we should go sledging after work."

Kibum stops and blinks.

"What?!"

"Kibummie! Don't just stand up there! Get down here!"

He's sort of glad that Donghae is at the bottom of the hill where he had been dragged to. Because had he been up at the top where Kibum is standing, plastic sledge in hand, he would have to make him feel what divine punishment is.

Kibum deadpans and rolls his eyes for what feels like the hundreth time that day and sits down on his bright, orange sledge.

"I can't believe I'm friends with this moron." Kibum mutters to himself and watches as Donghae waves to him from the bottom with a huge grin on his face. He pushes himself forward and slides down the hill, feeling the thrill of rushing down a hill in his stomach.

When he's nearing the bottom, he realizes way too late that he's headed directly for Donghae and before he's able to shout 'get out of the way!', he hears an 'oopmh' and suddenly feels snow in his face; a heavy weight hanging onto him as they roll down further along the hill.

When they finally come to a stop, Kibum is on his back with what he assumes is Donghae halfly on top of him, groaning because somewhere along the line, he's pretty sure they hit a tree.

Kibum winces as Donghae moves and sits up on his stomach, clutching his head and trying to remove the snow from his face. Kibum coughs and mirrors his actions, opening his eyes to look up at a snow-covered Donghae which vaguely reminded him of a snowman.

"Kibummie," Donghae says, pulling off his gloves to wipe away some of the snow from his jacket. "You could have at least given me a warning or something." He laughs a little and Kibum sighs, laying back against the snow and letting his eyes wander along the sky.

"Sorry Hae," he says, "Before I knew it, it felt like I hit a huge bear or something."

That remark earns him a punch on the arm and he laughs, knowing that Donghae hates being compared to a bear.

He likes fish.

After they brush themselves off, they sit silently in the snow for a while. Donghae is drawing small patterns in a part of the untouched snow and Kibum is leaning against a tree, watching him.

"Bummie."

Kibum makes a sound of acknowledgement, letting his gaze drift.

"Thanks for coming out today." Donghae says, turning to him with a smile. Kibum blinks when he looks at his hyung and is a bit confused. Why thank him for such a simple thing.

"Don't worry about it, we're friends after all, right?" Kibum tries to smile a little as well, but it's hard when he sees Donghae's smile falter a little at the comment.

Donghae turns away silently and draws a few more lines in the snow. Kibum suddenly feels his chest constricting a bit, a feeling of guilt gnawing in the pit of his stomach, but he doesn't know why.

"Want to go back?" Donghae asks as he stands up, the genuine smile from before present once again on his youthful face. It makes Kibum frown, because what was that feeling before? Why did he feel guilty about saying they were friends? That's what they were, right?

"Yeah, sounds good. It's getting dark after all."

He stands up and brushes himself off, running a hand through his hair. "Do you want to come over to my place tonight? We can cook something good." He offers. He hasn't spent time with Donghae outside of work for a while and he misses it.

The older of the two nods and picks up the sledge, grinning. "Okay. But only if you pay for the groceries, I'm stupid broke this month."

Kibum laughs and pushes Donghae so he almost falls down flat on his face, but manages to catch himself before he does.

"You're such a leech. Let's go."

They walk to Kibum's apartment and spend the night cooking, talking, and playing video games. He compares Donghae to a bear several times that always ends up in a spontaneous wrestling match - which Kibum always wins anyway because he's got the upper hand in strength.

When they're on the floor in the living room, lights turned out and two futons splayed out beside each other, Kibum watches Donghae sleep for a while. Donghae is an eternal enigma that Kibum can't really figure out, but seeing him so peaceful like he is when he sleeps, he figures that it might be for the best anyway.

Donghae means a lot to him, he knows, but he has never considered anything beyond their friendship and somehow, that makes him feel guilty because it feels like he should.

But in the end, Kibum is just happy with what he's got and hopes that life can continue on in peace like it has so far.

And really, Kibum prefers fish over bears any day.
