It had been the only way you knew how to leave without leaving a trail of hurt and sorrow behind. Except maybe it turned out that way anyway.

You remember those small words you'd written on his notebook on his nightstand; the dull sound of cars from the street below the only sound in the room along with his soft snores. You scribbled it in french, because you knew he wouldn't understand, and maybe - you tried to convince yourself otherwise - it was because you didn't really want to understand either.

You placed a small statue of the Eiffel Tower on the notebook and a red rose; it reminded you vaguely of the first time you'd met him and it brought a fond smile to your face.

His face was peaceful with sleep, the moonlight soft on his features and you took one good, last look at him. It would be the last time you saw him for a long time, and when you returned he probably wouldn't remember you anyway.

"I love you," you whispered and placed a light kiss on his lips, pushing back those black bangs of his from his forehead.

You stood and turned, heading for the door when a small sound from the bed startled you.

It sounded like he called your name and your grip on the doorhandle tightened; your chest feeling like it was constricting and making it hard to breathe.

But you didn't stop and continued out the door, leaving your life behind with him because he deserved so much more than you.

You're sitting in France, in your small apartment that isn't really much to show for but it's nice and cozy and holds all your favorite books, song lyrics, and piano pieces.

You sip on a cup of tea and gaze out your window at the Eiffel Tower, feeling strangely content. Since you came you hadn't been able to find the peace you wanted when you first arrived, but now you feel it.

This is what you wanted.

A small sound at your door signals the mail has arrived and you get up leisurely, sipping at your tea as you bend down and pick up the bills, notices, and other things that want your attention.

None of it really does except when there's an envelope adressed to you. You turn it and frown; no sender.

Sitting down you put the bills away along with your mug and quietly open the envelope, curious as to who would even write to you. No one knows you here.

When you fold it open, you see very messy Korean scribbled in a few lines but it makes your stomach flip and your heart rise into your throat. Suddenly, your heartbeat is loud in your ears and your fingers tremble.

Yah, you're a goddamn idiot. Do you know how long it's taken me to find you? I won't question why you left because obviously you needed something that I couldn't give you. I'm not mad, but curious as to why you couldn't at least wait until I got up and spare me for a lifetime of worry. I thought you died or something.

Je t'aime trop. Je voudrais que tu me donnes une autre chance.*

Yeah, that's right. I learned French just because of you. You better be happy.

- Youngwoon.

The sudden knock at your door makes you fumble with the letter and you stare, wide-eyed from the door to the letter a few times because there's just no way.

Another knock and your trembling legs are carrying you slowly towards the door. You swallow hard before you reach out and open it. There's a small part in your heart that doesn't hope that it's him because then everything you left is going to come back all at once and you're not sure you know how to handle it.

When you come face to face with your past, you take in a sharp breath; feeling the sting of tears in the corners of your eyes.

He's there; all soft smiles and half moon eyes.

It takes a while for you to realize that it's him because he looks different. But somewhere in the back of your mind, you think that maybe - just maybe, you'll get to know the new him.

Because for him, you can abandon everything.

*should mean 'I love you too. I want you to give me another chance.'
