Life update and BPAL reviews

Aug 28, 2009 10:08

Life... it is crazy. I will update this weekend about it, highlights being: my rings are back, got to spend a great night out with gypsy at Coyote Ugly, got speeding ticket, grandpa's dying, I'm not going to Utah for Christmas, but instead am going home somehow, homeschool, Fridays, and a church date with Amy.

BPAL - just putting in the names for now so I can edit it later with scent notes and a review

Snow White 2007 - A chilly, bright perfume: flurries of virgin snow, crisp winter wind and the faintest breath of night-blooming flowers. - Oh how deliciously light! It is sweet and creamy floral fruity. Very hard to peg. It's warm where I expect cold, but deliciously so.

Katharina - A strong, willful blend with a soft, utterly lovely soul: white musk with a trickle of bright, sharp apricot and orange blossom. - a bit strong on the musk and orange blossom. I was hoping for more of the apricot to come through. Pleasant enough, but I'm passing on.

Seraglio - Sweet almond and Mysor sandalwood enveloped by a heady veil of Bulgarian Rose, neroli, nutmeg, clove and orange peel. - This is perfectly yummy. I want to eat it - it reminds me of something my mom's mom's family used to make at Christmas! But then the sandalwood comes out... and kills it dead.

Slippy Poppy Tincture - Poppy flowers, acai berry, and honey. - Sweet black rot. No thanks.

Thalia - Plumeria, pear and white champagne. - Deliciously sweet and young. I hate the flavor of pears, but I love their scent and with the sweet floral and the bubbly champagne, this is a keeper.

Somnus - Named after the Roman God of Sleep. This blend helps bring on deep, restful, natural sleep. - Lavender. Death Note.

Marae - Vanilla orchid, Monoi tiare, gardenia, and light incense. - Gardenia and incense is apparently not as bad together as I thought... A surprising keeper.

Faustus - An infusion of incalculable power and irresistible temptation. Truly an exercise in megalomania and self-gratification: frankincense and cinnamon, darkened by violet. - I so wanted to love this one! Damned frankincense.

Chimera - The fiery, volatile scent of cinnamon, thickened by myrrh, honeysuckle, and copal. - Yummy. Cinnamon and honeysuckle. I'm not sure what copal is, but I think it's that hint of something "other" that I can't place. I'm not getting any myrrh, which is good, as I don't like the scent.

Kumiho - Nine-tailed fox demon of Korean lore who transforms into the visage of an irresistible beauty in order to seduce men and lead them to their doom. A sharp, biting blend of crisp white tea and ginger. - Maybe a keeper. The ginger's a little dry, but that may be the influence of the tea.

O - The scent of sexual obsession, slavery to sensual pleasure, and the undercurrent of innocence defiled utterly. Amber and honey with a touch of vanilla. - Amber is now taking this one a bit sour. It was delicious.

Hunger - Evokes sheer, unadulterated carnal lust. An undeniably warm and sensual scent. Black narcissus, orange blossoms, and vanilla. - I only get the black narcissus - a dirty floral. Letting go.

Coral Snake - Snake Oil with blood orange, red apple, lemon peel, plumeria, and gardenia. - Heavenly fruit salad in the garden with vanilla.

Tissue - Rice paper, white gardenia, and raw honey. - I get the white gardenia, but am unsure what else is in there giving it a chemically scent.

Sin - Thoroughly corrupted: amber, sandalwood, black patchouli and cinnamon. - dark and dirty. Not even cinnamon can redeem it.

Zephyr - A gentle white scent, breezes laced with the scent of springtime blooms and citrus. Lemon, lemon verbena, neroli, white musk, white florals, white sandalwood, China musk, bergamot and a drop of vanilla. - This one's almost too complex for me, it gives my nose a burnout trying to sniff and separate the notes. Passing on.

Vixen - The innocence of orange blossom tainted by the beguiling scents of ginger and patchouli. - Possibly a keeper. The ginger spices the orange blossom beautifully and the patchouli hides when on my skin (thank God).

The Clod and the Pebble - Rose otto, clove, patchouli, Indian sandalwood, nutmeg, and cedar. - My notes have one word: Eww.

White Chocolate, Marshmallow and Coconut - White chocolate, marshmallow, and coconut - Kind of blandly sweet. Passing on.

White Chocolate and Strawberry - White chocolate and strawberries - I think it's the white chocolate note that makes these kind of cloyingly sweet and bland.

Sugar Skull - Vibrant with the joy and sweetness of life in death! A blend of five sugars, lightly dusted with candied fruits. - Smells like herbal honey...

Fruitcake - Rum soaked raisins.

Jingo - fresh spicy green

Festival of Anuket - Shimmering offerings of gold scattered through life-giving, fertile waters. - Generic Men's Cologne

Skuld - Ylang ylang, honey, Egyptian and Arabian musks and labdanum. - My only note: Ewww.

Inez - Golden amber, vanilla musk, myrrh, cedar, carnation, and red sandalwood. - I always hold out too much hope for the carnation scents.

Velvet Dogs Playing Poker - Smooth wood, sweet pipe smoke, tonka, and Irish coffee. - Very blah. tonka and smoke are bad on me, so it just wasn't a keeper.

The Robotic Scarab - Polished metallic notes, glossy leather, frankincense, star anise, and thin lubricating oils. - Anise and grease! It's like my baking and my dad's garage! A keeper!

Shattered - A blend of white champagne notes, grapefruit, lotus, slivered mint and crystalline aquatic blooms. - Minty citrusy aquatics do not blend with my skin chemistry well. Eww.

Darkness - Bottled gloom; the essence of oblivion. Blackest opium and narcissus deepened by myrrh. - Not a pleasant scent...

Manila - A tropical, humid, lush scent, with a faint echo of Pacific breezes, jungle blossoms, and deep wet woods. Sampaguita blossoms, banana leaf, palm, and narra. - too much banana leaf...

Metal Phoenix - Tenacity, force, strength, stability, and determination: Chinese musk and gleaming white metal with honeysuckle, rose mallow, verbena, and carnation. - Very sour on me - I think that's the white metal and musk at the forefront.

The Hanging Gardens - date palm, ebony, fir, pomegranate, plum, two pears, quince, fig, and grapevine with plumeria, three gardenias and dry rose. - surprisingly pleasant and not overly floral.

Gunpowder - Carrot peelings, hay, chaff, molasses, maple oats, red apples, stable wood, and musk. - molasses, hay, and carrot make it sweet while the oats and apples tie it to the wood and the musk grounds it. Delicious.

Perchta - Her scent is a blend of wild musk, snow, and alpine flora: Nigritella lithopolitanica, aconite, crocus, touch-me-not, edelweiss, Iris variegate, and violet. - a bit too woodsy, pine and musk to be pleasant for me.

Stimulating Sassafras Strengthener - Sassafras, vanilla extract, oak leaf, CO2 butter extract, and onycha. - Woodsy rootbeer. I do love the scent and flavor of sassafras.

How Doth the Little Crocodile - Chocolate peppermint, mint-soaked vanilla, pistachio, oakmoss, and green cedar. - I get a rich mint chocolate with swirls of vanilla and a hint off woodsy groundy. Delicious! So glad I bought it scent unsniffed!

Berry Moon - A golden summer musk with warm fig, orange blossom honey, sweet blueberries, and bright velvety crimson raspberries. - Sour musk and no fruit to my nose. A deep disappointment for a raspberry and blueberry lover.
