Thoughtful conversation

Aug 14, 2009 00:58

Ok, so usually Akuma's an ass.  It's just his way.  Hell, he's the one who started calling me the Thelliephant.  Which still makes me snicker, even though it's a fat joke.  He asked a question, and this is the dialogue that followed edited for superfluous comments and status changes (oh and FYSavant is also know as otter):

[00:17] Quick question for the channel, because I am curious and trying to understand.
[00:17] What do you live for?
[00:17] others.
[00:17] I live to serve others.
[00:18] Why?
[00:18] Because in doing so, I serve myself.
[00:18] How?
[00:18] it is gratifying to see a job well done, to see others learning and growing and being well taken care of.  And that is what I do.
[00:19] I do a good job, I teach and support and take care of others.
[00:20] I never feel satisfied or fulfilled when I live for myself... so I've stopped doing that.
[00:22] Through shackles you find freedom?
[00:23] freedom in devotion is what I call it.
[00:23] I only feel free when I am devoted to others.
[00:23] good answser Thellie
[00:23] * Thellie snuggles xan
[00:23] thanks
[00:25] <@Leffy> i live for chocolate and books.
[00:25] * @Leffy is materialistic and greedy XD
[00:25] i live for my daughter
[00:25] I am going to sound child-like thellie, and I assure you that for once, I am not being mean...
[00:26] I only feel free when I am devoted to others.
[00:26] Why?
[00:26] <@Leffy> its a hard concept to explain. if you've never felt it, you can't understand it
[00:27] i was going to say 'because'
[00:27] because it is then that I feel that I am fulfilling my purpose.
[00:27] but your responce was better
[00:27] I love to love others.  And that's how I best show my love.  There are few people I don't love in some way, shape, or form.
[00:28] i live for my daughter
[00:29] This I can understand.
[00:30] not to sound churchy, but through my devotion and action of love for others, that's how I best show God's love.  I'm not one to go all preachy all the time and I'm not perfect, but it's a little thing that I can do.
[00:30] Life is about sharing yourself with other people. Personal preference aside, history has shown that people who extend themselves to others tend to have the most fulfilling lives, and those who live cloistered and for little to no other reason than for themselves tend to end up bitter and shrivelled. There is something in human nature that drives people to seek out others to be with and do things for
[00:32] people who have a lot to give find themselves in careers in life where they extend beyond themselves for others, from something like childcare to something as seemingly repulsive as customer service
[00:32] but they only truly feel accomplished and whole when they're helping others, no matter the degree, each according to their gifts
[00:54] otter makes sense
[00:54] and you do as well, thellie
[00:54] and for you both, it seems to work for you
[00:55] so, Akuma - what do you live for?
[00:55] the retention of a promise to do so
[00:56] why do you keep it?
[00:57] because my promises are unbreakable

leffy, love, xan, freedom in devotion, akuma, food for thought, fy
